Sweetgrass needs a period of cold-moist stratification, so plant in a moist site the fall, covering lightly.  Keep watered until established.

It spreads extensively by rhizomes so plant it in a location where it can spread freely.  Although sweetgrass is typically found in moist soils, it will establish in medium moisture-level soils and benefit from the addition of organic matter.
